Indiana Medicaid and waiver programs

Understanding the waiver programs.

Official information from the State of Indiana. These are the programs that fund Structured Family Caregiving, Attendant Care, and Home and Community Assistance.

For case managers and professionals

Who might be a good fit for Structured Family Caregiving, Attendant Care, or Home and Community Assistance. Four things usually need to line up.

01

Medicaid Waiver

The person is enrolled in or pursuing an Indiana Medicaid Waiver. Waivers need two separate approvals: financial and medical. Compass Family Care services are funded through the PathWays for Aging, Health and Wellness, and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Waivers. DDARS: Medicaid HCBS (opens in a new tab)

Not on a waiver? Learn about CHOICE (opens in a new tab), a state program handled through the local Area Agency on Aging, or call Compass Family Care.

02

Daily care needs

The client must meet a nursing facility level of care (NFLOC). This is part of the medical approval. Indiana Level of Care Assessment Representative (LCAR) (opens in a new tab)

03

Shared home (SFC only)

For Structured Family Caregiving, the client and caregiver live together in a private home. Attendant Care and Home and Community Assistance do not require this.

04

Authorized plan of care

The waiver case manager decides whether a service is appropriate and includes it in the authorized plan of care. Compass Family Care does not make that decision.
